Background

Jonathan C. “Jay” Augustine was elected to the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board in September 2006 and sworn into office in January 2007.  He is serving his first term of office and is currently serving as Vice President of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board. 

A noted author and accomplished attorney, Jay Augustine has written articles published in the Louisiana Law Review, Louisiana Bar Journal, Tulane Maritime Law Journal, Southern Law Review, and Around the Bar, the official journal of the Baton Rouge Bar Association.  He is an adjunct professor at Southern University Law Center.  Augustine is also a former election law counsel to Mary L. Landrieu, Louisiana’s senior member of the United States Senate.  He earned an economics degree from HowardUniversity and served four years on active duty as a decorated infantry officer in the U.S. Army before earning his law degree from Tulane University School of Law.  He is admitted to practice law before all Louisiana state and federal courts and the United States Supreme Court.  Augustine began his professional career as a law clerk to Louisiana Supreme Court Associate Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson.

Family

Augustine owns a home in Baton Rouge where he resides with his 2-year-old daughter, Jillian C. Augustine, and his mother, Jeanne C. Augustine, a New Orleans native and Hurricane Katrina survivor.   The Augustines worship at Mount Zion First Baptist Church in downtown Baton Rouge where Jay serves as the church announcement clerk.
