Background

Dr. Spell received a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Summa Cum Laude) from McNeese State University in 1993. He then earned his medical degree (M.D.) from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1997. After completing his post-graduate training in both internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Spell joined the faculty of the LSU Health Sciences Center in 2002. He continues to serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Earl K. Long Medical Center. In this capacity, he has helped teach hundreds of medical students and resident physicians. Since 2004, Dr. Spell has also been in private practice with the Louisiana Hematology Oncology Associates at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. He has been a partner in this practice since 2007. Elected in 2006, Dr. Spell is serving his first term on the School Board.
